Security

Defense in depth, layer after layer

A request crosses the portal, the gateway, the network, the API and the database. No layer assumes the previous one did its job: each enforces its own control and denies by default.

At a glance

  • Default-deny Cilium network
  • Tenant isolation with forced PostgreSQL RLS
  • Secrets in OpenBao, passed by reference

The challenge

AI agents widen the attack surface

An agent reads untrusted content, calls tools, handles sensitive data and acts on behalf of users. Each of these steps is a chance for injection, leakage or privilege escalation when security depends on the code of each application.

  • Prompt injection through documents, pages or tool responses
  • Leakage of personal or confidential data in prompts and answers
  • Exfiltration through outbound calls or redirects
  • Cross-tenant or cross-project access

The path of a request

Six layers, six independent controls

Each layer enforces its own control. For example, the WAF filters obvious SSRF, but the egress guard revalidates every resolved address at connection time, and Cilium refuses the cloud metadata address anyway.
  1. 01

    Portal

    CSP with nonce, controlled links

  2. 02

    APISIX gateway

Coraza WAF, OWASP CRS rules, limits

  3. 03

    Cilium network

    Default deny, filtered egress

  4. 04

    Control Plane

    Authentication, RBAC, rate limiting

  5. 05

    PostgreSQL

RLS forced on every tenant table

  6. 06

    OpenBao

    Secrets and transit encryption

A resource of another tenant answers 404: its very existence is not revealed.

The controls

What the platform enforces for you

  • Gateway and WAF

APISIX filters traffic with Coraza and the OWASP Core Rule Set and applies size and rate limits before a request reaches the API.

  • Controlled egress

Every URL supplied by a tenant goes through an egress guard: DNS resolved at connection time against DNS rebinding, redirects never followed, private addresses and cloud metadata blocked.

  • Tenant isolation

The tenant of every transaction is set in the database and RLS policies filter every row, even for a connection that owns the tables.

  • Secrets never exposed

Secrets live in OpenBao. Tools, MCP servers and connectors receive references, never the clear value in a prompt. SDKs and the CLI mask keys.

  • Prompt injection protection

Detection tunable per tenant, wrapping of untrusted content and an allowlist of links permitted in answers.

  • Scanned files

Every incoming file is scanned by ClamAV and YARA-X before an agent processes it or it gets indexed.

  • Workload identities

SPIFFE and SPIRE give every service a verifiable identity; certificates are managed by cert-manager.

  • Runtime monitoring

Falco and Tetragon watch container and kernel behavior; their alerts feed the SOC.

The proof

Security that is demonstrated, not declared

Every attack class is linked to a control, its setting, the test that proves it and the residual risk. A startup guard refuses a dangerous production configuration.

  • STRIDE threat model per layer
  • Injection matrix: control, setting, test and residual risk
  • CI security gates: gitleaks, Trivy, semgrep, pip-audit
  • Images signed with Cosign and admitted by Kyverno

Defense in depth for enterprise AI

A request to Navin Enterprise AI crosses the portal, the APISIX gateway with Coraza and the OWASP CRS, Cilium policies and then the Control Plane, and no layer assumes that the previous one did its job. This guide reviews each control, from the CSP nonce to PostgreSQL RLS.

Mandatory file scanning with ClamAV and YARA-X

Every file sent to the AI is quarantined, scanned by ClamAV and YARA-X and then validated before Docling, OCR or RAG can read it. Fully local, fail closed, logged and highly available.
