Alerts

The Alerts screen lets you read the FinOps alerts of your tenant: budget and quota thresholds crossed, and billing variances found by the reconciliation. Portal path: /finops/alerts (menu FinOps > Alerts, page title Budget alerts). FinOps analysts, tenant administrators and auditors use it to react before the budget is spent.

What the screen shows

AreaContent
Kind filtervariance, budget, quota, or all.
Alerts tableColumns: Kind, Severity (info, warning, critical), Subject (JSON of the scope concerned), Message (in the language of the portal), Threshold %, Value %, Created. Up to 50 alerts.
Empty stateNo alert: alerts appear when a budget or a quota is crossed.

budget alerts compare the spend of the month with the monthly budget of FinOps settings and quota alerts compare the consumption of a quota with its limit. Their thresholds are 50, 80 and 100 % by default (setting EAI_FINOPS_ALERT_THRESHOLDS); the severity is critical from 100 %, warning from 80 % and info below. variance alerts are raised by a reconciliation run when the variance of a provider, model and day exceeds the variance threshold of the tenant: warning, or critical beyond twice the threshold. Each threshold alerts once.

Typical tasks

Review the budget alerts of the month

  1. Filter on the budget. Choose budget in Kind and click Filter. Expected result: the table lists the budget thresholds crossed, newest first. If it fails: if No alert appears and you expected one, check that a Monthly budget is set in FinOps settings.
  2. Read the severity. A critical alert means the budget is spent. Expected result: Value % shows the share of the budget consumed. If it fails: click Refresh.
  3. Act on the spend. Find the agents or models that cost the most in Summary, then cap them in Quotas. Expected result: a hard quota stops the calls beyond its limit. If it fails: see the troubleshooting of the Quotas page.

Follow the reconciliation variances

  1. Filter on the variance. Choose variance in Kind and click Filter. Expected result: each row names in Subject the provider, model and day concerned. If it fails: no variance alert is raised before a reconciliation run.
  2. Open the report. Go to Reconciliation for the month of the alert. Expected result: the row is flagged Over threshold. If it fails: choose the month of the alert in Period.
